Security

Whether on the streets of communist
China, Beijing to be exact, or outside the
gates of Royal London.....Police presence
is often felt.
These uniforms definitely are designed to
conjure up feelings of respect and keep
you at arms length, with the stiff creases
and starched formality, sashes, helmets,
badges and epaulets.
Fashion has definately been influenced
by the uniform lately....
and here are some that command
attention!

Grotesque

These black and white wall drawings
remind me of intricate etchings. With fine
art so inspired by street art at the moment,
you could take these of the street, place them
on the walls of MOMA and no one would flinch.
Well only slightly because they are so
fantastically grotesque.

Camo

With camouflage hitting the catwalks,
here's proof that the street is always one
step ahead. Even if these folks are not
fashion focused, they may just have
inspired a designer or two.
Whose to say?

Burlesque Babes

These girls are so smoking hot they are
the new glamour pin ups on the street.
With old school style, not a hair out
of place, eyebrows plucked to perfection,
sleek, fierce and graceful.
You gotta love a bit of burlesque
va va voom that would make Dita stop
and redo her makeup.

Loosening Up

One of my favourite shots ever is the one
above . I admire people who take fashion
risks and wear whatever suits themselves.
I also love the way guys are playing with
proportion and volume in all these shots.
A friend of mine said that she has noticed
how volume moves down the body as
fashions change.

With the emphasis seen on shoulders lately,
tapering down to narrow legged jeans and pants,
is a shift on the horizon.
Will the next voluminous zone be down around
the ankles with floaty skirts, flared pants and
caftans.
We have already seen this with women's fashion,
but are boys going to follow this trend next.

I am not suggesting that all men are going
to embrace the skirt, but baggy pants;
I think so.

Animalia

Leopard, zebra, tiger, giraffe,
python.

There is something very
glamorous and decadent when animal print
is worn well.
Keep the look old school with 50's inspired
pencil skirts and cropped coats. Or combine
with basic black and modern accessories.
Otherwise ocelot can look over the top.
Oh, and the temptation to wear matching
spots with your partner may be great
(see second from top), but you do run the
risk of being shot at with a tranquilizer dart
and carted off to a safari-park housing the
species that fashion forgot.
Meoowwww!

Mr Men Gone Bad

Something has happened to all our
favourite story book characters on the streets.
Reinvented as sinister cousins of the
originals, they are back , dripping with
blood , scowling and looking a little night-
marish.
The Disney era that was all utopian and light
has been turned on it's Mickey Mouse ears.

Welcome to the cartoon creepshow!

Little Black Strides

Bridgitte Bardot, Little Richard,
Olivia Newton John and Axel Rose,
what style choice do they all have in
common?

Black, sleek, fitted, body-hugging...not
since Paris was black and black was Paris
and the age of the St Germain all black
uniform, have black pants been so
ubiquitous.
Everyone has there own take on them though.
The rock edge of black jeans or leather (girls
only unless you are doing fancy dress or
really are a Rock God!) And then there is
sexy shiny Lycra leggings, or the tailored
and flattering variety.
I love the look with contrasting tops and
black shoes.. see how they are worn here
and you can't go wrong.

Hot Pink Public Transport..

The classic black London cab had better
watch out. There is a new breed in town.
Forget discreet and inconspicuous,
gliding past the elegant stone facades
and black iron gates,
down wet shiny streets.
All very proper.

Fierce and fuchsia!
Plastered with publicity!
A distant relative of the fluro taxi that has
emerged in many tropical climates south
of the equator..(I first saw them in Bangkok.)

At least they are easy to spot.

TAXI!!
