The birds, the birds... everywhere!

Loosening Up

One of my favourite shots ever is the one

above . I admire people who take fashion

risks and wear whatever suits themselves.

I also love the way guys are playing with

proportion and volume in all these shots.

A friend of mine said that she has noticed

how volume moves down the body as

fashions change.

With the emphasis seen on shoulders lately,

tapering down to narrow legged jeans and pants,

is a shift on the horizon.

Will the next voluminous zone be down around

the ankles with floaty skirts, flared pants and

caftans.

We have already seen this with women's fashion,

but are boys going to follow this trend next.

I am not suggesting that all men are going

to embrace the skirt, but baggy pants;

I think so.

Crochet Chic

There is something very comfortingly crafty going on

with fashion at the moment. I don't know if some one's

Grandmother is working overtime or if Gen. Y have

discovered the art of crochet.

Any way, it has been hibernating for sometime and now is

back; this time not in the shape of table cloths and

doilies , but bags, vests and dresses.

The look is somewhat herbal chic with a dash of

Fleetwood flavour.

Stevie we love you for inspiring a whole new generation

of modern day gypsies!

In The Trenches

The trench..on every fashion list of the

essentials in a guy or gals wardrobe, the

trench coat is up there.

Columbo wore it with crumbled nonchalence,

Tin Tin with nickerbockers and Angelina Jollie

with a pair of killer heels. (Hers was in black

leather of course.)

Burberry probably still do it best in either

the classic or restructured versions.

The best thing about them is you could throw one

over a pair of PJs to dash down and get a morning coffee

and croissant, and you will still end up on a best

dressed list.

Shades

There are so many great shades around it

makes it hard to chose.

Retro, big framed glamour, mirrored, or

classically cool.

I just go with my face shape and what suits.

I also try to pick shades that suit my personality

and mood. Don't write a cheque your ass

can't cash, or something like that.

Put it this way, if I wore a pair of mirrored

aviators, I would look more like one of the

Village people than the Rock God I had

perhaps hoped !

As I have lost countless pairs,

(or sat on them), it is rare that I will really

splurge on an expensive pair. However

sunglasses are like jeans. That perfect pair can

be somewhat illusive, so when you stumble across

them...

'just gettem!'

Stripes, stripes...and more stripes!

What can be fresher than stripes?

Especially navy and white.

With denim and a touch of red,

under a black jacket or on a bikini; stripes

are not trying too hard, but have street cred

that dates back to the queen of fashion,

Coco Chanel herself.

The Ramones also rocked stripes under

their leather biker jackets, and the

French have almost made them their

national staple.

So next time you want to look like you are

cool as a cucumber, even in a muggy city

on a scorching hot day..throw on stripes!

The Monochromatic Man

Black and White is always a snappy urban

option. Far from mundane , these fellas

have played with shape and contrast to

stop traffic...like a graphic street sign,

or one of those black and white gates

at a railway crossing.

Do not pass without admiring their sharp style.
