Animalia

Leopard, zebra, tiger, giraffe,
python.

There is something very
glamorous and decadent when animal print
is worn well.
Keep the look old school with 50's inspired
pencil skirts and cropped coats. Or combine
with basic black and modern accessories.
Otherwise ocelot can look over the top.
Oh, and the temptation to wear matching
spots with your partner may be great
(see second from top), but you do run the
risk of being shot at with a tranquilizer dart
and carted off to a safari-park housing the
species that fashion forgot.

Petit Chapeau

Caps are coming back. Actually they never
really went away. This time though it is
not so much the trucker variety ( which
never looked better on anyone than
Geena Davis in 'Thelma and Louise',
by the way ), or the baseball cap.
I have been seeing cute, tweed,
drill cotton and military inspired caps
everywhere. There are a legion of fans of the
legionnaires cap out there, and also of one
that is almost inspired by an old time
railroad workers cap.
Check out these street looks above and
get capping.

Sea in the city..

Some Cities are built by the sea. It is
reflected in the street art of that city as
shown in the examples here. I especially
love the giant whale and sea life murals
of well known street artist Wyland.
He has painted over 100 of these dramatic
marinescapes , these ones dotting the
coast of Honolulu.
The amazingly intricate and fragile
looking glass sculpture by American
artist Dale Chihuly, (above), in the entrance
foyer of the Victoria and Albert Museum,
London, is an example of bringing
the sea into a city that is inland, proving
that most city dwellers still want to feel
connected to the ocean and its savage beauty.

Weird world in miniature..

You know those movies where the lights
are turned off at night and all the toys
come to life.
Well the characters here would be great..
kind of a warped ' Toy story', with manga
characters, aliens, monsters and even
Bruce Lee all fighting for the love of a
girl in light blue jumpsuit riding a pink
go-cart.
Please forward any script ideas
to streetspaghetti!

Trail Blazers..

Tailored jackets are the new style
staple that have made their way
from catwalk to streets.

Maybe we are yearning for a bit of
structure in our lives and this is
reflected in this trend.
Somehow, just putting on a blazer
just makes you feel on top of things.

Far from this look being all buttoned
up and conservative, rolled sleeves,
loose ties and unstructured canvas bags
help to relax this look.
Here are a few ways to wear jackets
with panache!

Poolside

After a faltering start this year, summer
in Sydney seems to have really hit its stride.
Something I love on a hot day, is to go
down to one of the ocean pools.
They are in stunningly beautiful beach
settings, often admission is free to the
public and after your swim , close to
great cafes for a Latte or a smoothie.
The one below on the shores of Bondi
is one of my favourites.
People swim here all year round...even
on the coldest winter day, hence it's
name the Bondi icebergs.
