Back to Black

Black was off the radar for a while, surpassed

by every other shade of the rainbow .

Shades of blue, green, purple and crimson

were all dubbed the 'new black'.

Returning in all its dignified glory,

black is so definitely an option again.

I don't think it will be as prominent

as it was in the 80's early 90's

when the Japanese designers like Yamamoto,

Rei Kawakaba, Matsuda and Miyake ruled,

and Maclaren chanted 'he wore black,

she wore black';

but BLACK IS BACK and that is that!

Vintage

No not fashion. we are talking wheels.

These cars are iconic and original and

speak volumes about the eras that they

were born out of.

Unique design that is still as covetable

and unique now as when they were first

produced.

Love the citroen on a hill in Paris.

Could be the ultimate inner city car for

wizzing around narrow , busy streets.

Yellow

If there is one colour that can brighten up

and add a sunny corner to any street scape,

it is yellow.

Apparently it is the colour that is most

conducive to boosting intelligent thought.

It is also synonymous with the suns rays,

golden sands on a beach and is often seen

as positive and optimistic .

Boardies

Hanging loose is the way to go this

summer on the beach.

Here are a few options for boys and girls

who want to take the street to the beach

with some fresh board shorts.

Borat style G- strings, Beckham speedos and

anything pulled up above the hips could run the

risk of a lifeguard mission to remove you

from the beach. Boardies are the go.

Don't change but wear them in the city

with a tee and jacket on the way home.

Sea in the city..

Some Cities are built by the sea. It is

reflected in the street art of that city as

shown in the examples here. I especially

love the giant whale and sea life murals

of well known street artist Wyland.

He has painted over 100 of these dramatic

marinescapes , these ones dotting the

coast of Honolulu.

The amazingly intricate and fragile

looking glass sculpture by American

artist Dale Chihuly, (above), in the entrance

foyer of the Victoria and Albert Museum,

London, is an example of bringing

the sea into a city that is inland, proving

that most city dwellers still want to feel

connected to the ocean and its savage beauty.

Heavy Cross

This post is inspired by my favourite song

of last year, and by my personal

collection of crucifixes.

I try to pick one up whenever I go to a

new destination.

They cover an entire wall and I love their

drama and symbolic strength.

Washing as Art?

Something I hope I can achieve in

streetspaghetti, is to show that even the

most mundane thing can be seen as

beautiful if you look at it through fresh

eyes and with a different perspective.

After all, isn't that what photography

does sometimes; capture a

moment often overlooked.

Think of hanging washing as a haphazard

and charming art installation,

offering a glimpse of the true life of a

street and it's inhabitants.

Poster power

Here are some posters I have seen around.

Often torn, they are like fragments of

beautiful artworks.

Some are even so abstract they could be

artworks. Who knows, but I think they

add so much to a telegraph pole don't you!

Getting Graphic

Black and white photographic prints on

tees are popping up everywhere in every

city I have been in lately.

Faces, bold type and old photos

are covering so many chests, it is proof

that graphic statement , monochromatic

T-shirts are street style staples!
