Paws up Little Monsters

Photographing these artworks at
night gave them a very cool ghoulish
feel.
It made me see these backstreets of
Surry Hills in Sydney in a different
light.

Don't walk home alone...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Sherlock's Home

'What have I found here Watson ?'

The signs outside an Old English Pub
are so wonderful.
I really love trying to find new ones
whenever I am here.

Basquiat

I recently read a review about fashion blogs
in GQ , stating that a lot of the people in
them are seeming overly self conscious
and all the spontaneity of throwing on original
pieces that reflect the wearers personality
are becoming less and less evident.
Wasn't that the appeal of these blogs when
they first popped up out of nowhere.

While I don't describe street spaghetti as a
fashion blog , I identified with the article
as original self expression and ideas excite me
and that is a huge component of this site.

But now there seems to be a recipe for 'dandy
dressing' on the streets all over the world.

Pants rolled to a specific height,
a certain number of friendship bracelets
thrown over a vintage rolex watch,
pocket squares that somehow work on the
gents of Milan, but not so much on
a guy walking down the corso of
Bondi Beach.

So here's the thing as I see it ; context is
everything.....
and surprise accounts for a lot in the fickle
world of fashion.

If every other bloke is wearing a paisley
pocket square and exposing his carefully
chosen argyle socks beneath cropped chinos
...where is the surprise in that?

That brings me to this guy I saw in London.

He looks great in his clothes.

They suit his personality, body shape and
the city and climate he is in at the time.
He looks fresh, and, though he is not the
first person to ever wear a striped tee and
overalls, he wears them well!

He may( or may not) have been inspired
by one of the most fashionable artists of
all time; Basquiat (now there was a true
original), but inspiration isn't bad..we all
know there is nothing truly original in Pop
culture and fashion any more.

So loosen up.
I know it's a cliche but be yourself and
if you feel self conscious and keep
adjusting your clothes as you leave
the house...go home and change.
You will come over as authentic
that way.

Anime Magic

Sometimes I am just in the right place
at the right time.
So I just happened to wander into an Anime
convention in Siam, Bangkok really by accident
as it was being held in the complex I go to get
my favorite green tea ice-cream.

So this is where kids get to fulfill there
alter-ego fantasies , dress to impress
other anime lovers and try and embody
the attitude of these modern- day
Japanese cartoon heroes.

They strike poses for fans and try to
out do each other as well.

I will post some more pictures later..
but here is one girl I thought was
pretty amazing.

Red Hot !

Did you know that John Constable the master
English landscape painter always had a touch of
fiery red in his paintings?
Just a bit of trivia for you that you may never
need to know .

Nautical but Nice!

Fresh off a yacht?

..the large red carry below is more practical
than arms dragging plastic bags, and
way more eco-friendly.

Debbie does Sydney

..spotted this great flier posted around a lamp post in
my hometown of Sydney.
Could she be the coolest rick chic of all time?

And she's wearing another Popeye Tee.

Where can I get one?

Finding Nirvana

One very smooth guy in Soho.
Its hard to do the jumper tied around
the neck thing without looking too
cheesy, but he gets away with it because
everything looks so effortless and
relaxed. Did he just throw all this
on at the last minute? Who knows but
it all looks so good together and definately
matches his swagger.

Hindi Heaven

This would have to be one of my
favourite types of religious
iconography.
Is this Lord Shiva (below)? I think so as I am
sure he carried this fantastic looking
pronged pithchforky thing.
And I am sure it is Krishna above.
Namaste.

Elephants in London

I had this post ready to put on my blog
a while ago.. and somehow it got lost,
but better late than never as
I know you will like these shots.

These elephants were dotted all around
the streets of London.
His Royal Highness, The Prince Consort
of Denmark is the patron of this , the
largest sculptural project London has
ever seen!
They were such a great contrast against
some of the sombre monuments and
stone facades. So much for the sobriety
of the English cityscape.
There was a point to all this though:
raising awareness to preserve the
elephants natural habitat and a
call to arms against poachers, who are
annihilating this majestic beast in the
wild.
Art for a cause..
Streetspaghetti loves this!

Lost ?

They may be there to point us in the right
direction, or let us know we have arrived
at the right juncture.. but street signs can
all have a distinct look to them as well.
They vary all over the world
Some simple and clear, others embellished
by street artists. Here are a few I like.
