Green

The colour we are now embracing

as positive and fresh.

It wasn't so long ago, that green had

evil connotations.

Just look at old Batman comics...

Poison Ivy or The Riddler in their green

lycra.

Now it is the colour of the canopy of our

rainforests or those beautiful trees that line

our streets that we think of, and how

important it is to keep our planet green

with efficient power and recycling among

other things.

Go green has become our catch cry,

and many design elements of our cities

are reflecting just that.

Halloween is just around the corner, and this is definitely a night when the street is buzzing with creativity. Only on this night will you see husband and wife both dressed as Cher, 16 multi-coloured Alice in Wonderlands or a blood soaked trucker vampire! Can't wait!

Tattoos have influenced design and

 fashion in a huge way, especially in the

 last decade, as culturally and personally

 significant, retro, tribal and just plane

 quirky imagery is all thrown into the

 body art pot.

I have noticed wall tattoos emerging also. 

 These murals are definitely tattoo inspired.

Sometimes great pieces of art and design

 happen by accident.

 These walls postered with advertisements

 and fliers have , over time, become

 artscapes.

 Not only that, they are like a diary,

 that record events that have occurred

 in the area.

 Peel them back and discover

 which movies, parties or plays

 have featured in that burrow!

Girl Power

Sculptural Sreet.

 In the centre of Trafalgar square, on a

 model's head, or a sprucer's jumpsuit; 

doesn't matter where, I love sculpture. 

 Fluro coloured perspex, pom poms and a

 huge amount of teasing and hairspray

 are all you need to jolt the eye and 

challenge perceptions.

 Give me height, drama, volume

 and a bit of asymmetry...

  and I'm happy!

Orange Crush

I do have a crush on all things orange.

 I live in Sydney, and summer is just around the corner, but the nights 

are still cool.

 Solution... knitwear for trees.' What?' I hear you ask.  'Art and About' is transforming the city and they came up with this playful idea. If  this doesn't inspire someone  to do legwarmers , especially with the remake of 'Fame' about to 

hit cinemas,

 I will eat my fingerless gloves!

Street Crossings

When I travel, I definitely seek out streets that have a great life to them. Those streets that buzz with colour and creativity. I will sit in a cafe and watch the world go by.

 They change constantly and are vital and alive. 

I find these streets all over the world and wish there were more like them. Or maybe I don't, because they are worth the effort to seek out and surprise you when you find them.

You all know the kind of streets I mean .
